The China Study

Okay, I never thought I'd say this, but I actually found a book on nutrition that I can completely endorse.

People are ALWAYS asking me for references to diet and nutrition books, and honestly, I've never found one that I totally agree with. Well, during my research today (for my upcoming book...) I found one! It's called The China Study, by T. Colin Campbell, PhD.

I ordered my copy from the library, so if you want to preview it before you buy, there's an option.

All I can say is this book makes so much sense, and it's written by a Dr. Campbell, who actually has a PhD in nutrition (so rare to find nutrition books written by nutrition experts these days). It's based on a TON of studies, and if you like my blog, this should be just up your alley.

BTW: If you haven't figured out the cookbook I endorse - it's Moosewood Restaurant Cooks at Home. Buy it and use it often.

I looked at it yesterday, but what about all the recipes that require dairy? Do you sub it with soy milk, or do you allow yourself a certain amount of dairy per week? We let my son have dairy this weekend, and he's been coughing ever since. Sigh.

Julieta: are you talking about the Moosewood Cookbook? You could either substitute with non-dairy or use dairy. If your son has such strong reactions however, I recommend a vegan cookbook!

    Hi Bronwyn --

    I'm lovin the blog!!!

I purchased The China Study recently (based on your recommendation). Some of it's over my head, but overall, a very informative book. I'm also reading Dr. Neal Barnard's book on reversing diabetes through a plant-based, lowfat vegan diet. Actually, I'm reading all I can get my hands on about veganism. I've decided to try it out in an effort to get off diabetes, hypertension, and cholesterol medicines.
Keep up the good work! Looking forward to your lecture at the Co-Op later this month.

Thanks Bronwyn. Yes, his reaction to dairy has increased exponentially recently. I just bought Veganomicon this weekend.

    Bronwyn,
Another good cookbook is Kristina Turner's The Self-Healing Cookbook. I think it's a gentle book and has simple recipes and nice explanations ... also non-dairy.
